well it is ignition barrel - tried the turn key back and it worked - does that mean new barrel / or removal and clean etc
funny I wondered whether to post this problem as it seemed so strange to me and small , but amazed at how many seem to share it !

Although car has been comprehensively rewired professionally I still have times when the full head lights and front and rear wipers dont work !
