Re: 356A rally car.
Don't really know about the Ilkley rally (Ilkley is 3 miles from me), not really my thing TBH.

Re: Original tyre brand
Generally 356s were supplied with Michelin Xs, though you could order it with other tyres (including Engelbert, Continental and Pheonix and even white walls!)

Nice Gmund, wonder where that is. From the number plates, I assume somewhere in Austria.

Re: Notchback Restoration
Not really, my body guys mum is very ill (has been in intensive care recently). I am considering my options while enjoying free storage as I have a feeling he may want to stop, it is very close to paint with all the welding and panel work done though. I only know of 3 T5 notches, mine, Mikes and ano...

Re: 356b for sale
To me modern cars have become an appliance on wheels. There to do a job and that's it, no matter what badge it is carrying. And that's fine at times but a classic gives so much back when driving and a lot of satisfaction when you work on them and fix something. The road trips are great, am off to St...

Re: 356b for sale
That Silver A is twice the car that the blue B is. The B is a T6 which to my eye is the least desirable body, the A is a pukka AFN car, that is yelling at you. Dig deep, drive it a lot and don't be too precious of it. You only regret the money you don't spend...... Secondly, a bit of advice i give ...

Re: 356b for sale
The gold 356 was probably the Carrera that was ordered new in that colour.takeflight wrote:We went to Prescott last Saturday and a gold 356 was attracting a lot of attention think it may have been one our members. Stunning.
Any more comments welcome
Roy
A very rare and lovely car.

Re: 356b for sale
I had a T6 like this for many years and they're great cars.
As Ashley says, their achilles heel is the body.
There is quite a bit of over bite on the bonnet as well which suggests the front end has had some work. Worth a look though as RHD is quite rare.

Re: Fuel pump rebuild tips
The only risk of have a filter between the pump and carbs is that you have another join (and potential leak) in the engine bay, which could lead to disaster. Not sure an external filter is so necessary as the tap and pump have their own filters (I don't have one in the cab). Sounds like the fuel tap...

Re: Vehicle trackers
I have a tracker in the cab (6 volt) through Skytag, who monitor and test it monthly.
For the amount these cars are worth now, it seems mad not to do this.

Yes, had an invite too, but won't be going unfortunately.
It's simply too far for me to travel and would mean at least one overnight, which I can't do at that time of year as I will be very busy anyway.

Re: 356 'S'
A lovely find and well worth buying.
The S stands for Super on the car and as others have said relates to the engine. The car is a 356 BT6.
My first 356 was also a Super, chassis 120898 so very close to this one.

Nobody's forcing you to attend Neil.
If we looked at any aspect of owning these cars from a purely accounting point of view, I doubt any of us would be doing it.
For me the experience of being at these (and other) meetings and driving the cars is far greater than any monetary cost.
