Re: Sub par brakes

The correct master cylinder must be used for drum brakes as it has a built in residual pressure valve thereby holding some pressure in the system to reduce slave cylinder piston travel, it is no good on cars with discs as the last thing you need is pressure in brake system when releasing the pedal b...

Re: Sub par brakes

I had similar problem and tracked it down to no gap between the pedal plunger and the master cylinder socket when at rest, from memory I think the workshop manual says there should be a gap of 1-2mm before the pedal starts to actuate the master cylinder, I assume it’s so the internals get past the f...

Re: Problems with my Bush

Well done, I did think a little provocative title might not only make the post noticeable but also encourage others to add something?

Re: Problems with my Bush

Thanks Roy,
I think any 356/ 912/ 911 that has a pivot with original bushes will have lost them by now,
A cursory look will miss the problem as the retaining washer obscures the problem.

Problems with my Bush

This post is a heads-up for anyone who like me has had a continuing problem with variable tick over on a 356, the car is a B T6 and since putting it back on the road after restoration ( two years now) . Over that time I have tried to find a cure for the problem, setup the carbs, replace the springs ...

Re: Modern petrol and starting problems

It would admit to being a fuel tart, buying from the nearest (BP) or cheapest ( Morrison’s) not realising that there was petrol around that didn’t contain ethanol, all pumps including the performance fuels show E5 on them, indicating they contain ethanol. After see your posts it seems Esso is the on...

Modern petrol and starting problems

Don’t know if anyone is having similar problems starting my B as I am experiencing?. The car is on zeniths and I refurbished them two years ago, initially I had starting it from cold, this proved to be fuel evaporation which resulted in the carbs running dry and having to be filled again when trying...

Re: Fitting an ammeter?

The smaller wire from the battery is the one that goes to terminal 3 on fuse board, as to why?, why not?.

Fitting an ammeter?

I want to fit an ammeter to my T6 B, I would like to fit an ammeter to the car, has anyone done this or knows how to do it?, looking at the wiring diagram it looks to me the best place to do this would be by breaking into the power input into the fuse board at terminal 3. By diverting the input wire...

Re: Disc brake conversion problems- SORTED

Don’t know where you got £1500 for the kit from, I paid less than 1k, Just Kampers is selling them for £950, whilst I know this is no small amount it is the same as you would have to pay for a front wing. Doing anything major with a 356 is goings to cost £££ but if you shop around you can generally ...

Re: Disc brake conversion problems- SORTED

How fortunate you are to have the skills and equipment to diy, for us mere mortals we have to rely on kits you buy, safe in the knowledge that it’s all there, it fits and it works, together with backup if things go wrong as they did with me. One major attraction of the CSP kit is the outside appeara...

Re: Disc brake conversion problems- SORTED

Unfortunately anything with Porsche in use is going to cost more, add 356 to the mix and the price goes higher, it’s a fact of life. That said the disc kit is well thought out and a fair amount of engineering goes into the manufacturing, on the other side of the coin, CSP makes a similar kit for bee...

Re: Disc brake conversion problems- SORTED

Have done over 1200 miles this year with this disc kit, after initial juddering problems the brakes have performed very well, I would recommend the front discs kit that I fitted with the proviso that the pads supplied may cause a problem. However if you do experience similar problems to mine contact...
