Re: Back in beige
What ECU are you running? Assuming you are going to combine fuel and spark in one box? I'm running a Microsquirt ECU for spark, which has been great. I'm going to use it to run the fuel, too. You already have crank ignition so what will an EFI give you? Slightly better fuel economy? POWAHHH. And, m...

Re: Back in beige
OK - car is going to EFI. I have fitted the throttle bodies and installed the high-pressure fuel pump. Lots of bits and pieces to tidy up, but putting it on electronic spark first really saved me a lot of work at this stage. I drove a stock 912 (with a big-bore kit) a few weeks ago and it made me re...

Re: All change at Classic Porsche magazine...
Keith, Dreadful news, and I absolutely understand your decision. I started my career with Unity (working for Elliott Roberts on Performance VW, then Louise Woodhams on PBMW, Stu Gallagher on GTPP, etc) and absolutely -loved- it. I had been working at a paper in London and knew I didn't want to do th...

Re: Back in beige
Hi Neil, Nice to hear from you. Car is great, althought tucked away for the summer right now. Can get a bit hot here in July / August - it's 47C tomorrow. One thing I enjoy most about the car is how much my little boy absolutely loves going in it. He's pretty well behaved generally (my wife's work),...

Re: Back in beige
Very nice to hear from you all! How about suspension and brake mods Jamie? I completed the rebuild of the car on Bilsteins. Over time, I realised they were way too damped for the minimal weight of the car. I replaced them with standard Boge units and the ride and handling was much improved. The car ...

Re: Back in beige
December 2019 update. Since the car was finished (even in the cool, moist British air) I noticed it ran hot. Hot when you pressed on, and hot when on the motorway. Since moving to the desert of South West United States, to a dry, hot valley surrounded by 6-8000 ft mountain passes, the car would run ...

All that said, right now I wouldn't mind a $3000, don't care, piece of crap Baja Bug to smash about in the desert with my boy.

Great to hear you and the family are having a great time Mr Lipman....you are so SoCal 8) How's that lovely Citroen coming along? x I sold it on - was a crazy idea, given the stress level of moving abroad and essentially starting a business all over again. When we moved out of LA I wasn't go...

Nice to hear from you all, and to see what everyone else is up to!
Typical LA mindset. Only boring people get bored.inaglasshouse wrote:...the immigration guy at LAX couldn't believe that we'd be spending most of the month in PS (not LA etc)- he said we'd be bored after 3 days. Like you, didn't happen.

Re: Back in beige
Flying, my other passion... I've done a lot more flying since moving here. Aviation in the US is like nowhere else in the world and is the true definition of that F-word that Americans love so much. The attitude to aviation is very different here - in the UK it's a rich man's hobby. I've best heard ...

Re: Back in beige
Long overdue update... Not long after getting the 912 back on the road we moved to the US. We also had a baby (born in the UK shortly before we left). I shipped the car back across the Atlantic and for a year we all lived in Los Angeles. Like every European that moves to the US, I bought a stupid bi...

Good f-in God. I check-in for a long overdue update and it's in pieces again!
Still think it's the best engine I've ever driven. The definitive spine tingler.

Re: 2 Stroke in the Fuel for a Long Journey, Really?
Abject ballcocks. If anything, you risk coking-up valve stems and combustion chambers. That said, Marvel Mystery Oil... I recently had a sticky valve in a Lycoming O-360 (which is basically an upscaled VW Type 1), and read that adding MMO to the fuel can help to fix it. I always imagined this stuff ...
